@upvargasmuseum and @metmuseummanila open two new shows on 21 April, Saturday, 4:00 p.m at the ground floor galleries of the MET. "Fascination with Filipiniana: The Vargas Museum Collection" and "In the Wake of War and the Modern: Manila, 1941 to 1961" feature the comprehensive collection of the Jorge B. Vargas Museum and Filipiniana Research Center of the University of the Philippines in Diliman, Quezon City.
Drawing reference from the collection’s roots, "Fascination with Filipiniana: The Vargas Museum Collection” examines the artworks and archives that comprise the Vargas Museum collection, and Jorge B. Vargas’ place in the history of Philippine art and culture. Fascination, a translation of his compound fondly called Kawilihan, not only alludes to Vargas’ instinct, habit and passion for collecting, but also includes the word “nation,” a discourse relevant to him at a time when he was both a government official and a collector. "In the Wake of War and the Modern: Manila, 1941 to 1961" explores how the collections of the Vargas Museum and the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas interconnect, and the historical context that surrounds their respective formations. Framed by the years when Vargas was appointed Mayor of Manila, until the time when he became Regent of the University of the Philippines, the period also marks the emergence of both the modern and the so-called “Mabini Art” from Manila before, during, and after the Pacific War. "Fascination with Filipiniana: The Vargas Museum Collection" and "In the Wake of War and the Modern: Manila, 1941 to 1961" will run until July 21, 2018
For more information, please contact the Metropolitan Museum of Manila at 708.7829 or send an email to info@metmuseum.ph.

Could I ask if the museum is open tom
Good day!
May I ask if Vargas Museum is accepting requests for it to be a venue for an educational field trip? The local state university, in which I was formerly employed in, is hoping to make Vargas Museum part of their itinerary during one of their educational field trips this August 2012. They are planning to send a request letter probably within the week. They’ve approached me to inquire about said concern because I’m an alumnus of the College of Arts and Letters.
Hoping to hear from you regarding the aforementioned concern.
Thank you very much and more power!
Sincerely,
KHC
Thank you for your interest to visit Vargas Museum. Unfortunately, the museum is closed due to electrical repairs. We will inform you when the museum opens again.
hi good morning. Are you also engaging in curator consultancy for museum design? we are restoring a museum and we would like to hire curators for the museum. Can I also know the rates? Thanks in advance.
Hi. Please send us a formal letter regarding your inquiry. You may send it via e-mail to vargasmuseum@gmail.com. Thanks.
To whom shall I address the formal letter? Thanks.
Address it to Dr. Patrick Flores, Curator of Vargas Museum
Who should I contact/where should I go to know if there’s any job vacancies in the museum?
We regularly update this website/blog and we will post the announcement here once there is a vacancy. For the meantime, you can send your resume via e-mail to vargasmuseum@gmail.com for our file.

Yes, we’ll have the regular session of Sena workshop in June 2012. We’ll post the exact dates soon.
Is Vargas Museum accepting apprentice for Museum work? I would like to be an apprentice if they you are accepting apprenticeships work. Thank you.
The museum offers Internship Program. We will post the announcement once there is another schedule for this year (as the summer program had recently ended).
The Fernando Sena Workshop will start on June 23, 2012. Just drop by the museum to register.
I have seen the Philippine diorama history several years ago. Is the Vargas Museum where I saw this exhibit?
We don’t have that exhibit. Probably it’s the National Museum or Ayala Museum.
Dear Dr Flores,
Ms Meah See of Bahay Tsinoy would like to bring her students (high school) there for a tour. She was wondering if the Vargas Museum can also give a talk on art as it reflects history, especially Philippine history. Ms See recalls seeing a timeline of Philippine art in one of the galleries there. Her contact details are meahsee@gmail.com and 09178226324.
Thank you in advance for the assistance.
Sincerely,
Mary Ann Josette E. Pernia
