  1. Good evening,

May I ask if the Vargas Museum basement is open for rental? If so, may I ask for the rates?

    Thank you!

  2. I don’t know if I missed looking at the schedules. What are the business hours of Vargas? Is it open Saturdays? Hours? A friend and I plan to visit tomorrow and we are both taking our time off from work. We have not visited UP for years now.

    Thank you!

    Pam

  8. Good day!

May I ask if Vargas Museum is accepting requests for it to be a venue for an educational field trip? The local state university, in which I was formerly employed in, is hoping to make Vargas Museum part of their itinerary during one of their educational field trips this August 2012. They are planning to send a request letter probably within the week. They’ve approached me to inquire about said concern because I’m an alumnus of the College of Arts and Letters.

Hoping to hear from you regarding the aforementioned concern.

Thank you very much and more power!

    Sincerely,

    KHC

  13. Dear Dr Flores,

Ms Meah See of Bahay Tsinoy would like to bring her students (high school) there for a tour. She was wondering if the Vargas Museum can also give a talk on art as it reflects history, especially Philippine history. Ms See recalls seeing a timeline of Philippine art in one of the galleries there. Her contact details are meahsee@gmail.com and 09178226324.

Thank you in advance for the assistance.

    Sincerely,

    Mary Ann Josette E. Pernia

Vargas Conversations on Visualizing Sound Exhibition with Gerardo Tan, Dr. Felicidad A. Prudente, Sammy Buhle and Dr. Norma A. Respicio 14 March 2019, Thursday, 2:30 pm 1F Galleries UP Vargas Museum presents a conversation between Gerardo Tan, Felicidad Prudente, and Norma Respicio on the exhibition Visualizing Sound on March 14, 2019 at 2:30 pm at the 1F Galleries. Visualizing Sound is a collaborative exhibition which presents works between artist Gerardo Tan, musicologist Felicidad A. Prudente, and master weaver Sammy Buhle. The exhibition reflects on the translation of forms through the work Rendering, a video and audio documentation notated in modern sound symbols, which are then translated into visual images, and in turn interpreted in textile by the ikat method. Complementing this is another work by Tan titled Speaking in Tongue (inspired by an indigenous chant from Kalinga called sogna) that tries to articulate the production of vocal sounds resonating from a singer’s mouth. Thus, the exhibition Visualizing Sound becomes an intersection of modes rooted in tradition and enriched in multidisciplinary contexts. Join us as we create a broader understanding of how traditions and the contemporary setting harmonize through various forms of art. With exhibiting artist Gerardo Tan and Felicidad Prudente, together with insights from Norma A. Respicio who specializes in traditional art forms focusing on textiles, participate in learning transcribing from woven fabrics, articulating performance by presenting visuals, and portraying traditions through sound. Vargas Conversations: Visualizing Sound is free and open to the public.
