Ateneo Art Awardee 2015: PIO ABAD

Pio Abad Congrats Sept 2015

The UP Vargas Museum congratulates Pio Abad for having been named one of the winners of the Fernando Zobel Prize for Visual Arts in the recently concluded Ateneo Art Awards on September 17, 2015 at Shangri-la Plaza Mall. His solo exhibition The Collection of Jane Ryan and William Saunders ran from August 28 to September 30, 2014 at the 1F Lobby and West Wing Galleries of the museum.

In the exhibition, Abad employed strategies of appropriation to reveal the social and political significations of objects, unraveling the circumstances in which artworks and commodities are made, presented and exchanged. Sculptures of Malakas at Maganda, an array of postcards of the seized and sequestered collection of the Marcoses, and Tintoretto’s The Miraculous Drought of Fishes were some of the objects that he used to initiate a discourse on the psychopathology of power.
