Museum Assistant Position

The University of the Philippines Vargas Museum announces the opening for a:


LOCATION: Vargas Museum, University of the Philippines-Diliman

A non-UP contractual position reporting directly to the Curator.

The MUSEUM ASSISTANT will perform the following tasks:
1. Front desk duties including (but not limited to) receiving guests at registration, responding to queries, and answering phone calls
2. Prepare monthly visitor profile and survey reports
3. Consolidate e-mail addresses from guest books for input in electronic mailing lists
4. Oversee the Museum Shop
5. Accomplish financial reports for gate passes and museum shop items
6. Assist in preparing and installing of artworks and wall texts for exhibits
7. Assist in receiving, dismantling, and packing artworks and other objects for temporary exhibits
8. Assist in group tours and invigilation of the ground floor galleries of the Museum
9. Do daily rounds in the exhibition spaces to check on captions, lights, and other logistical details
10. Maintain the Vargas bulletin board at the Faculty Center
11. Other duties instructed by the Curator

1. Must have a background in Art Studies/ Humanities/ or museum work
2. Civil service eligibility sub-professional/ professional is an advantage
3. Must have good interpersonal skills
4. Must be proficient in MS applications

About Jorge B. Vargas Museum

It aims to preserve its collection donated by Jorge B. Vargas and conducts research, exhibitions, publications, and educational programs. The Vargas Museum and Filipiniana Research Center houses a museum, archives, and library devoted to the Philippine history, art, and culture from the late 19th century until the post-war era. Its main beneficiaries are students, faculty, researchers and scholars of the Philippines and Asia.

Books, reports, and other materials about #migration #policy are available for reading at the 3F South Wing, courtesy of colleagues from Goldsmiths - University of London, Scalabrini Migration Center Philippines, Enrich HK, Department of Sociology of The University of Hong Kong - HKU - 香港大學, and Keele University. The Living Architecture Exhibition is on view until 7 April 2018. Here is one of the four Tiyad structures created by Indy Paredes on the porches of the museum. Paredes will be joined by architecture and urban planning specialists on 24 March for the Artkitektura Exhibit Encounters 3: Vargas Conversations - "How can we make our cities more human?" The museum invites undergraduate and graduate students of Art Studies, Humanities, Fine Arts, Curatorial Studies, Museum Studies, Cultural Heritage, History, Library Science, and Archives Studies to apply:

For March 2018, we need interns to assist with research of objects, manuscripts, and memorabilia for upcoming exhibitions.

Interns will index the serials collection, digitize the archive and memorabilia collection, and contribute to the inventory of the library collection. Applicants are preferably Library Science majors.
