The UP Vargas Museum will host a lecture by Dr. Norma Respicio for the second time in line with the Woven Templates exhibit. The talk is scheduled on 21 April 2009 (Tuesday), 10:00 AM, at the Lobby of the Museum.

Dr. Norma Respicio

Dr. Norma A. Respicio is a Professor of Art Studies at the College of Arts and Letters, UP Diliman. Her primary fields of specialization are on the history and aesthetics of traditional art forms with specific focus on textiles, primarily on those of the Philippines. Dr. Respicio’s discussion will focus on the active weaving centers of the Philippines and its current status, the history of weaving in the country and some of the weaving implements and processes used to create textiles with impressive designs and patterns.

About Jorge B. Vargas Museum

It aims to preserve its collection donated by Jorge B. Vargas and conducts research, exhibitions, publications, and educational programs. The Vargas Museum and Filipiniana Research Center houses a museum, archives, and library devoted to the Philippine history, art, and culture from the late 19th century until the post-war era. Its main beneficiaries are students, faculty, researchers and scholars of the Philippines and Asia.
